岩隈、一場の女房役はオレに任せろ！ 楽天エース候補２人のそれぞれの出身校である堀越高と明大は、カツノリ捕手（３１＝前巨人）の母校でもある。かわいい後輩との不思議な縁を感じながら、新球団では頼れる兄貴として、また正捕手となって２人にミットを差し出すつもりだ。昨年は戦力外通告、背水のトライアウト受験と激動の１年を送った。引退を覚悟しただけに、新天地にかける思いは人一倍だ。プロ９年間の経験と、父克也氏（６９＝シダックス監督）直伝のＩＤ野球で「今年こそ」開幕スタメンマスクを狙う。
０４年は激動の年になった。
カツノリ 「振り返れば本当にいろんなことがあった。１月は突然（阪神から巨人に）トレードがあって、１０月には戦力外通告を受けた。コーチの打診も受けて迷い、現役続行を決めてからは職探し。トライアウトを受けて、１１月には次の球団（楽天）が決まった。最悪やめる覚悟もしていたからね」。
昨秋のトライアウト（西武ドーム）では起死回生の２本塁打を放ち、強烈なインパクトを残して楽天入りを決めた。
カツノリ 「ああいう場面で力を出せたことは大きな自信になった。野球ができなくなると真剣に考えたから、今できることをすべてやろうと思い、トライアウトだけに集中した。結果は出来すぎだった。合格の知らせを聞いたとき、野球をできる喜びを痛感した」。
－－楽天の印象は
カツノリ 「これだけ全選手がスタートラインに立っているのは珍しい。それだけチャンスも転がっているということ。チームとしては優勝が目標。１試合でも多く貢献して、拾ってもらった恩返しをしたい。
－－正捕手争いのライバルは
カツノリ 「横浜から来た中村（武）さん。捕手というポジションは、レギュラーをとったらなぜ長いのか。その経験と実績、安心感が中村さんにはある。挑戦したい」。
リードする投手陣には期待の若手が多い。岩隈が堀越高の後輩、一場は明大の後輩になる。
カツノリ 「本当に楽しみ。（一場については）明大の別府総監督から相談役を頼まれている。力になれることがあればアドバイスする。９年もプロにいるのでマスコミの接し方など教えたい。まだ話したことはないけど（不祥事に関する一連の出来事はあるが）先入観では見ない。実際に会話して、自分なりに理解したい」。
－－一場をリードするなら
カツノリ 「球を受けてもいないのに、それは分からない。ただ捕手は、投手の良い部分を最大限に引き出してあげなければならない。速球を生かすには、どうすればいいのかは考えている。そのためには、まず投手とのコミュニケーションが重要。会話なくして信頼関係は成り立たない。投手陣との会話は、前のチームではだれにも負けないぐらいやってきた。自分の財産になっている」。
父克也さんからは「就職を決めた以上、自分を信じてしっかりやれ」と言葉を掛けられた。
－－ＩＤ野球を継承している？
カツノリ 「もちろんです。リードには１球１球に意味がある。打席では瞬時の決断力、判断力、観察力が必要とされる。そして相手との対戦データ。投手との関係。相手を知り、己（おのれ）を知る。それだけ捕手は深いポジションということ。目標とする選手はずっと父。ただ次元が違いすぎるだけで（笑い）」。
登録名を「野村克則」から、プロ入団時の「カツノリ」に戻した。
カツノリ 「ファンの方々にそう呼んでもらっているし、東北の人たちにも親しみやすいかと思って」。
－－座右の銘は
カツノリ 「『今ここに一生懸命』。今をしっかりやらないと先はないという意味があります」。
－－趣味は
カツノリ 「バス釣りです。よく相模湖などに行きます。ゲーム性が高くて状況判断も要求される。野球ともつながっているかもしれません。粘りと根性です」。
－－励みは
カツノリ 「家族の存在。３歳になる上の子どもが最近『野球、野球』と言い出してる。お父さんが野球選手だったと分かるまではプレーしたい」。
－－１番の思い出は
カツノリ 「阪神時代の４年前、甲子園でヤクルトの高津さん（現ホワイトソックス）からサヨナラ安打を打った。３点負けていたのに信じられなかった。その年は２度サヨナラを打つことができた。今年は、それ以上に忘れられないシーズンにしたい。崖っぷちからはい上がって、大輪の花を咲かせたい」。
昨季は巨人で１軍３試合出場のみと不完全燃焼に終わった。９５年に入団したヤクルト、移籍した阪神と、強力な正捕手がいるチームを渡り歩いて来た不運もあり、出場機会には恵まれないできた。だが捕手としての実力は、評価ほど低くないという声もある。背水のトライアウトで見せた爆発力。もう後がないカツノリが新球団で「開花」する。
